Will Powell's FOMC Reveal the Next Move?
We're approaching mid-December with another busy week ahead following last week's whirlwind of announcements. Despite CPI and PPI volatility, four central banks announced rates, and this week we have two more key central bank decisions and critical inflation data.
Earnings are quiet: Monday and Tuesday see just 166 companies, with Wednesday featuring Micron Technologies, Lennar, General Mills, and Jabil. Thursday picks up in volume with Nike, FedEx, PayPal, Carnival, and others.
Globally, services and manufacturing data kick off Monday morning with France, Germany, the EU, and England reporting before the U.S. at 9:45 a.m.
The main event? Wednesday’s FOMC statement at 2 p.m., followed by Jerome Powell’s press conference at 2:30 p.m., where he’ll explain rate decisions amid rising inflation and creeping unemployment.
The Bank of England also announces rates, with expectations split between a cut and holding at 4.75%.
Add U.S. retail sales Tuesday and final GDP Thursday – it’s a jam-packed trading week. Stay sharp!
