Monday Market Must-Knows: December 12, 2022

What is the Fed's plan regarding interest rates?

A couple of weeks ago, Fed Chair Jerome Powell was talking about the Core Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) Price Index, which came out lower than expected. Conversely, the Producer Price Index (PPI) showed a slight increase indicating that inflation might be a little bit higher than anticipated. The following report will help craft the fed's plan with regards to interest rates going forward.

  • Consumer Price Index (CPI) - Wednesday at 8:30AM EST

This week, the following Central Banks will make announcements:

  • US Market
    • FOMC Rate Statement - Wednesday at 2:00PM EST
    • Press Conference – Wednesday at 2:30PM EST
  • Swiss National Bank - Thursday at 3:30AM EST
  • Bank of England – Thursday at 7:00AM EST
  • European Central Bank – Thursday at 8:15AM EST

The US is a consumption-driven economy, therefore w need people to buy and spend. The expectation is that Black Friday and the holiday season will drive higher sales numbers. So, pay attention when the November retail sales numbers are announced on Thursday at 8:30AM EST.

As always, if you’re in the markets, make sure you have a trade plan.
