Reuters Overview of USA Retail Traders & Investors by the Numbers
In January 2021, Reuters did a nice job taking stock of latest numbers from various sources: Factbox: The U.S. Retail Trading Frenzy in Numbers. Some of the headlines are:
- Retail trading as a percentage of overall trading volume varies but has been in the range between 17% to 32%
- There are more than 100 Million accounts at the top 6 online brokerages, still dominated by the top 3 of Fidelity, Vanguard and Schwab accounting for 92.1 Million and Webull, Robinhood and Interactive Brokers accounting for 29 Million
The question is, how many of these are educated vs uneducated retail traders and investors?
